Has the blogosphere lost its meaning?
certainly to me, something in the blogosphere has changed.. blogging now is no longer like blogging three years ago.. yes, i know things do evolve through time, but does the "evolution" necessarily be good?
it revolts me when i see alot of the blogs today.. the number one thing i cannot stand is, bloggers WHO THINKS their blogs are very popular and address to their "READERS".. and i'm talking about those bloggers who intentionally writes to their so-called "readers" when they only gets like that few? if you're in the blogosphere for quite a period of time already, naturally you'll think that you HAVE readers.. but experience doesn't necessarily mean popularity! needless to say about those new bloggers who starts blogging THINKING that their blog will be like xiaxue's.. i may not be the right person to talk about popularity in the blogosphere, but a blog that's popular means that it has something that people(blog readers) like.. if that kind of attraction is so easily achieved, it wouldn't be an attraction to begin with, AND there would be thousands of xiaxues around by now.. MAYBE it's easy for certain people to obtain that kind of attraction, but then again, those people either has looks, or the character that marvels people.. it's just like joining Singapore Idol; people who can sing, gets it.. people who can't (and tries too hard like steven lim), DON'T! so what i'm seeing now is, there's alot of steven lims in the blogosphere TRYING to be the next "TOP" blogger.. TOO BAD in blogosphere, there's no ken lim or simon cowell to tell you in your face, "YOU ARE TRYING TO HARD, GO DO SOMETHING ELSE" (once again, i wanna emphasize that i'm talking about those bloggers who THINKS their very popular but when in actual fact, they're not) digressing, but for me, august 2007 was so far, the culmination of my four years of blogging; the nuffnang featured thingy, traffic from xiaxue, and the citibank advertorial.. AND i still think my blog isn't THAT popular! okay, maybe i'm trying to hard to be humble, but it's really nothing compared to alot of bloggers out there.. and i address to my readers from time to time (mostly apologising for the lack of updates) 'cos there are readers who ask me to update when i don't! thanks to the blog ad companies, those bloggers who already think they're "very famous", gets the advertisements and they rave about it madly on their blogs.. they IMAGINE that they are even more famous now, even when they actually gets like $1 per week? oh ya, having an exalted ranking in technorati doesn't mean you are popular! EVERYONE KNOWS that the more people who link you up, the higher your rank is (be it they read your blog OR NOT).. so, going to random tagboards and asking the person to link you on their blogs, IS VERY LOSERISH.. of 'cos, if you are top-ranking in technorati and you honestly didn't cheat OR those links are really your friends OR those links are actually your readers.. ..then you're truly popular (this is getting to become a very long and wordy entry, but HECK! i wanna get my point across once and for all..) and also, if you yearn to be famous by riding on other people's fame, please do it SMARTLY can? don't start tagging on popular blogs with things like "hi! for interesting entries, please visit my blog!!!" wah lao eh, that's the most loserish thing i've ever seen.. i don't think anyone reading this entry will survive until here, but hey... ...in a nutshell, has the purpose of blogging evolved into a crazy obsession with fame? p/s: i've no problem with people who have the abilities to fame-whore, it just irks me to see people who are trying too hard p/p/s: my comments are being moderated, so reckless insults and bigotry will not survive through my clicks! p/p/p/s: but you are welcome to discuss about the topic in my comment area if you want to
